An excellent primer on daily fantasy sports!!

"Essential Strategies for Winning at Daily Fantasy Sports" is an excellent introductory primer to the new "daily" fantasy sports phenomena. Due to the newness of daily fantasy sports, there are few, if any, other books that educate the reader in the unique rules and strategies of most daily fantasy sports (football, baseball, basketball, hockey) and noting critical differences between daily and traditional fantasy sports competitive strategies.

After a short introduction to put everything into the appropriate context, the author quickly moves to the meat of the book and that is teaching a number of strategies to enable the reader to win consistently and profit in daily fantasy sports. Even though the book contains dozens of mathematical or "quant" strategies, perhaps its most useful recommendation is always emphasizing that playing daily fantasy sports is a combination of both "science" and "art", and continuously reminding the reader to "not to lose sight of the forest for the proverbial mathematical trees," as the book convincingly points out success will always involve a combination of both.

If there is one small shortcoming, it's that the author doesn't make available a download version (in Excel perhaps) of all the formulas used in the book. However, this criticism is very minor as the formulas are very straightforward and should be simple for anyone with even the most basic understanding of Excel or other spreadsheets to easily replicate for personal use.

To conclude, I highly recommend this book and if the author is reading this review hope to see a follow-up to this book containing more advanced strategies!!

For anybody who is serious about daily fantasy sports, this book is recommended for you. It has everything you need in order to start winning money(if you can become a profitable player). This book has me motivated to improve in every aspect of my game.

Very Good Read

Very good read for beginners and seasoned players of fantasy sports. I'm a beginner, so a lot of the language and concepts are new to me. The mathematics can be a bit cumbersome unless you're good at math. The writer did not make it clear whether or not there are other ways to gathering the fantasy projections through other methods. It may take a few readings to really get a clear understanding of his methods. However, if you are serious about playing fantasy sports, and getting better at playing, then this book is worth reading multiple times.

Pragmatic approach to water resources

This textbook covers water resources and issues in the US from the viewpoint of an experienced professional. In addition to the chapter topics, sidebars are written by practitioners in various fields and locations. The book summarizes the major federal government agencies that deal with water resources, some state and local departments, and many of the topical not for profit organizations, all of which may help students understand what might be part of a profession in this field.

On the other hand, the book was not comprehensive on the ecology and ecological principles that are involved in water resources. The approach was far stronger in policy and regulation than in ecological considerations.

The value of this book in a course is, as usual, highly dependent upon how the professor uses the text in the course.

The text seems as if it was written by an English professor rather than a scientist. The chapter headings are helpful, yet standard to the discipline. Somewhat disorganized, somewhat organized... not as thematic as usual. I used outside resources to understand some of the more fundamental phenomena related to water as the explanations are not entirely clear nor ordered.
Decent graphs/pictures and also background stories relating the text to the real world.
Probably not enough visual aids.

Perfect comedy meets perfect horror

If you blended the works of Lovecraft and Kevin Smith, then mixed that with about three parts pure awesome and left it to grow behind your fridge, you might get a vague sense of the genre David Wong bullseyes with this book. It's funny enough to appeal even to non-fans of the horror genre, yet scary enough to stay with you for a long time. It's the sort of book that can raise specters so horrible you tell yourself you couldn't ever have imagined them, yet it keeps your faith in humanity alive with the way Dave and John (especially John) seem to casually flip off a barrage of unspeakable evil. In a book that opens fighting meat-ghosts with '80s glam rock, you know you're in for something special.

It's all about the soy sauce, a mysterious substance that "chooses" its takers and imbues them permanently with an ability to pick up on the doings of other dimensions. In the short term it can provide an insight into spacetime so profound as to tell them just where to go to get a large sum of cash, or how a chicken lived its life before becoming an entree. It's also the key to an invasion from the beyond, but it doesn't end there. The evil wants in, at any cost, and it's not above even cheap schoolyard-style bullying to get its way. Luckily, Dave and John know just how to handle that.

The bizarre thing about this book is that it is literally laugh-out-loud funny, but at the same time it's hide-under-the-bed scary. It is neither horror with comic relief nor comedy with a horror theme. It's both pure comedy and pure horror, two books coexisting in one, which should be impossible but somehow David Wong can pull it off. It kept me hooked right up to the end, for more reasons than just to find out how John dies.

Where can I get soy sauce?

I found it a crazy, lovely book.
A bit long but never boring.
The kind of book you keep thinking must be almost over, only to realize your only 60% through...
Don't go in expecting a traditional plot line and story with a beginning, middle, twist, the end type structure... this is anything but. The story keeps rebounding, twisting and turning and changing. This book will take you to crazy places.

However I really liked it and found it quite entertaining.

Stupid and Endlessly Fun

This is really a "young adult-style" book. I had to put up with the usual silliness found in this Genre. Therefore, I had little chance of giving it more than three stars. However, the author does a great job creating this universe and the characters are well-developed. His easy-going, casual writing style makes for a very fun read.

Xuan Zang lived from 602 to 664, and have traveled the western lands and traded with other countries along the western border from 627 or 629 to 645. More than three hundred years later, a story based on Xuan Zang's adventures, first appeared. The Journey to the West originated from this story. The Song Dynasty was founded in 960, yet because the only known author of Journey to the West, Wu Cheng en, died in 1582, during the Ming Dynasty, the story is considered the result of collective creation spanning five hundred years. The story also traveled through several countries and includes at least four different timelines. The events of Journey to the West, which include epic battles and threatened palaces and imperiled kings, could resonate with readers during almost any age, but the story focuses on portraying a peaceful society where deviance is ultimately trumped by enlightenment, violence defeated by benevolence. It is this balance, between depicting familiar events of conquest and telling a story about the search for truth, that makes The Journey to the West so beloved today. The author, Mr. Wei Dong Chen, is a highly acclaimed and beloved Chinese artist and an influential leader in the New Chinese Cartoon trend. His company, Creator World in Tianjin, is the largest comics studio in China. He has published hundreds of cartoons, which have been recognized for their strong literary value throughout the world. In 2005, he undertook the monumental effort of translating four classic Chinese novels into serialized comic form. After six years of great and enthusiastic work, he completed his dream, which now consists of 12,800 pages of beautiful drawings and epic storytelling. Monkey King is one of the four novels. Monkey King is a new landmark of comic artistry in China, and is a bold and exhilarating treatment of one of the definitive works of Chinese literature.

About the Author
Wei Dong Chen, a highly acclaimed and beloved artist, and an influential leader in the New Chinese Cartoon trend, is the founder of Creator World in Tianjin, the largest comics studio in China. Recently the Chinese government entrusted him with the role of general manager of the Beijing Book Fair, and his reputation as a pillar of Chinese comics has brought him many students. He has published more than four hundred cartoons, which have been recognized for their strong literary value not only in Korea, but in Europe and Japan, as well. Free spirited and energetic, Wei Dong Chen s positivist philosophy is reflected in the wisdom of his work. He is published serially in numerous publications while continuing to conceive projects that explore new dimensions of the form.
