Excellent well-written book that the reader can easily get into and care about the characters. A definite love story for the true at heart romantic. Dan Sexton can relate his characters to anyone who has experienced falling in love.

Successful author and publisher Rick Bettencourt brings back on stage Dan Sexton, a writer new to many of us, in a the completed version of his earlier brief novella HANDY MEN DO IT BETTER: the new completed full length, `fleshed out' version is now called THE HANDY MAN CAN, and the steam does indeed rise.

Florida, contemporary times. Jake Honeywell is a 23 year old `blond, green-eyed, six foot two' hunk of a landscaper and in between conversations with his sister and brother he meets 28 year old Cory Hamilton, a hunky golfer from North Carolina who flips real estate for a living. Both men are conflicted about coming out but together they manage to be honest and the results are spontaneous and sensual.

Dan Sexton has the solid approach in writing male erotica to make sure that the characters he manipulates are not clones but real men with real conflicts, family and lives beyond the moments of encounters. He introduces maternal alcoholism, DUIs, and the needs of Jake that prompt his moving out of his humble Florida family home. Then realities rise - Cory has a girl in North Carolina and moves back. Jake shares a small apartment with a straight guy Steve, but of course eventually Cory is free and Jake is longing and they start their sensual relationship all over again - with phone sex! And does it build r=form there! This is steamy, raw and rough - just what you might expect form a Handyman - or a man who is `handy'.

This is a good `coming out' story written by a lad who seems to have the talent to pursue longer novels. Dan Sexton writes well and has this particular manly genre down well. Grady Harp, April 15

Very Relevant, Detailed book for pain management

I have worked as a pain management nurse practitioner for some time and am always looking for the latest helpful info for the many causes of chronic pain. This book was especially helpful in addressing current treatments for chronic pelvic pain. I would highly recommend this for any practitioner looking to augment their knowledge of chronic pain treatments founded in evidence based science. It was helpful also in making the science behind the treatments understandable. Example: the differences between neurostimulation treatment and TENS units. I was able to put new knowledge to work for my patients. Thank you Dr Smith!

Content: It's difficult to cover such a broad area with anything approaching uniform depth. This book does a fairly decent job. The book is by a single author (rather than collected by an editor) and this shows in a pleasantly uniform approach to the material. It's well suited for use in a graduate course in materials chemistry, although it probably would not be the only text used. The introductory section on analytical techniques was helpful, particularly since it's entirely geared at applying the techniques to nanomaterials (as one would expect). The literature references are perhaps missing a little of the most recent (up to publication year 2009) work, but offer better coverage of the older references -- which are frequently more difficult to identify by searching databases. As such, the book offers excellent examples of how spectroscopic techniques can be used to study the optical and electronic properties of new nanomaterials.

Technical: The text could have used better proofreading. My copy is the hardcover, and the pages are starting to feel a little poorly bound. This is my only reason for 4 stars rather than 5.

Instead of having to learn everything about .NET all at once, ASP.NET: Tips, Tutorials, and Code offers a better way to start using the new ASP.NET effectively based on the most important APIs and programming techniques. For anyone tackling ASP.NET, this book is a great source of practical advice backed up with real examples.

A standout feature of this text is that it does not try to take on all of .NET first before showing you how to start actually using ASP.NET. In the first chapters, you'll learn the most important APIs and programming techniques for using collections, files, and directories, uploading files, and the like. Anchored with VB.NET (and some C# examples), each chapter is written by a separate author (or authors) with a personal take and advice on topics like database programming with ADO.NET, XML, and security options. This is a truly winning approach because it will let beginners or those with experience with the older ASP standard get going quickly with ASP.NET. About the Author

Developers, Add This To You Library

As a serious developer, nothing is more valuable than nicely annotated code samples. This 878-page book is packed with code, with server-side code in VB. I bought this book together with Programming Data-Driver Web Applications With ASP.NET by Mack and Seven. (These two are among the authors of this book, Tips, Tutorials, etc.) Between the two I have a nice library to draw on for help on my current .NET development project.
I have found the SAMS Teach Yourself series very useful in spite of their beginner level content. This book is part of a newer series from SAMS (blue spines with glossy photos of the galaxy) that are intended as in-depth resources for professionals. SO far the six that I have rank with the very best professional series from Apress and seem a bit beyond the always timely and usually useful WROX books.

A Must Have Book

I have read quite a few of the books out there right now on ASP.NET. There are those that are good reference books like the Wrox Press Professional ASP.NET one, but there are not a lot of books (programming in general) that actually read well and leave you feeling like you could actually implement the ideas after one pass of the material. This is one of those rare books that does that really well. Even if you own some other ASP.NET books, you might want to look at this one. The presentation is fast enough to not be boring, and it has a nice overall flow to it. If you like books that get right into the code, this would make for a good choice. The book does not get extremely deep into all areas, but it would be a bit much to expect one book to do that anyway. If you have programmed in ASP before, I think you will really appreciate the book's perspective.

The book really stands for the title

The book really stands for the title. I found in the book what I was looking for, something to get me started in ASP.NET without it beeing a begginers guide for novice programers. It takes you through every aspect of ASP.NET wich makes some chapters more interesting than others (ADO.NET, XML, Mobile Devices, etc..) almost all the chapters leave you greedy for more (specially passport authentication, webservices, managing state with SQL-Server) but the book is already 837 pages. This is the first time I see ASP.NET covered in every important aspect (web controls, caching and I never saw passport for example).
A mistake was made, by giving the framework sdk in the cd instead of the sample code, wich you can find in a million zip files in the web.
They also failed in telling the sample code is intended to follow your progress in the book. That means you won't see quality code untill chapter 16 (separating code form presentation). I think they made a good desicion, so if your looking for a source of sample code this is the wrong place (Go to the web).
I don't think this will become a reference book for me. As soon as you become proficient in the platform the book becomes shallow but this is the first time i'm happy with a book since i bought "Hitchhiker's guide to visual basic and SQL". This book succeds in having all the Tips, Tutorials and Code you need to get serious into ASP.NET today!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Broader introduction than usual

I would agree with everything the first reviewer has written. This book is very readable, and it introduces a large number of important general concepts in number theory. What separates this book from other "introduction" books is (1) it is pitched at a much higher level than most introductory number theory books, which often assume that proofs and induction are unfamiliar, and so there are many superfluous chapters at the beginning which are just a rehash of basic set theory, how to write proofs, and modular arithmetic. This book starts from the beginning with Fermat and assumes some mathematical maturity -- ability to read proofs, knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, basic definitions of groups, rings, and fields, about advanced undergraduate, roughly. But the difference in sophistication is more obvious towards the middle and end of the book, where more general concepts from algebra, geometry, and analysis start to appear. This allows the author to talk about a variety of topics that are rarely mentioned in "introductory" books. Put another way -- if you want to see what some of these topics are about, you either have THIS book, or else some rather technical graduate textbooks to start with. Where else is complex multiplication, transcendental number theory, quadratic forms, and p-adic numbers all discussed at an undergraduate level? The other aspect which is different is (2) everything is historically motivated, and this is more than a phrase -- passages of original historical text, problems originally studied, historical commentary, and other folklore are nicely put together with mathematics. The result is that the reader gets a very broad picture of number theory, the "big picture", seeing how number theory isn't some static piece of knowledge sitting somewhere in space, but a body of concepts, ideas, and techniques which naturally developed over the past 400 years. For an advanced undergraduate or graduate student who wants a simple answer to the question, "What is number theory?", I would just refer them to this book.

A skillful blend of history and solid number theory

A clearly written book that covers number theory at a graduate or advanced undergraduate level. Covers much of the material in Gauss's Disquisitiones, but without all the detail. The book covers elementary number theory, binary quadratic forms, cyclotomy, Gaussian integers, quadratic fields, ideals, algebraic curves, rational points on elliptic curves, geometry of numbers, and introduces p-adic numbers. Only a slight bit of analytic number theory is covered. A good book in my opinion to start learning algebraic number theory. Wonderfully fills the otherwise troublesome gap between undergraduate number theory and overly abstract graduate level algebraic number theory.
Full of historical information hard to find elsewhere, very well researched. To cover all the material in this book would likely take two semesters, though most of the important material could be covered in one semester. Requires a background in abstract algebra (undergraduate level), and a little advanced calculus. Some complex analysis for sections 19.7 and 19.8 would be helpful, but not at all a requirement. The author recommends Harold Davenport's 'The Higher Arithmetic' as a companion volume for the first 12 chapters, which according to Goldman is a gem of a book.

A Modern Classic

This is a superb book. The level is a broad introduction to Number Theory quite unlike any other. Every other N.T. book I know is either of the elementary type that covers all the usual stuff on primes, continued fractions, congruences, diophantine equations, quadratic reciprocity, etc. and then stops without introducing any of the machinery of the modern (ie. the last century and more), algebraic and geometric theory; OR, it is an advanced textbook that assumes a sophisticated and comprehensive knowledge of analysis and Galois theory etc. This remarkable book has substantial sections on the geometry of numbers, elliptic curves, p-adic analysis and much else as well as the 'elementary' stuff and provides a large amount of fascinating historical motivation. The whole book is very clear, well presented and thoroughly pleasurable to read. How all this is achieved in about 550 pages is that the earlier elementary parts are economically presented without too much of the recreational number novelties that tend to pad out some other books, and also a less rigorous approch is taken to (the more difficult) theorems that uses looser, schematic proofs or emphasises explanation of the meaning and relevance rather than exhaustive rigor. This book breaches the vital gap between basic and advanced NT that is conspicuously unfilled elsewhere. More books of this type are desperately needed, although one could hardly expect many to be as good as this.
