About the Author
Anne Melyn Cassebaum is associate professor emerita at Elon University where she taught writing, environmental and American literature for 25 years. She serves on the board of the Haw River Assembly and lives in Alamance County, North Carolina.

One of the most inspiring works about the real North Carolina that real Tarheels know that I have ever encountered.

I am descended from Germans that settled on the South Prong of Stinking Quarter Creek, a tributary of "Greate Alamance Creek", a major tributary of the Haw. I am married to a third generation child of the Scots-Irish McGees of the "Old Hawfields" that "came down" from Caldwell County to work in the spinning & weaving mills along the Haw throughout its less than environmentally beneficial passage through "Our" county of Alamance. Yes, damnit, I can remember the waters running yellow, one day, purple, another, below "Granite Finishing Plant" at Haw River. This chronicle of "Our River" and the herculean efforts of such diverse souls as the late Cary Allred (Like his fellow Repugnican, Jesse Helms,) a reviled member of humanity...But unfailingly resolute in pursuing the wishes of their constituents...is a mind warping assemblage of opinion, scientific data, historical minutiae( that just plain blows the mind of one that has devoted a lyfetyme to the study of white folk in this VERY river basin!) & just plain observation on a journey from the weeping, tree roote headwaters in Forsythe to the true Cape of Feare. This very day, passing this volume along to a sweet chile of Pittsboro, learnED that the solons of that towne have overwhelmED the years long reason & sanity effected by the Haw River Assemby & kindred clans to SAVE our river fair bid to be rent assunder by planned "Development". If you do not retain a memory of the backroads 'twixt Carrboro & Level Cross & learning to drive in Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Orange, & Chatham counties...You will need the "Delorme Atlas & Gazetteer of NORTH CAROLINA". Available for about $ 20 at your nearest Staples Office Supply.

Interview of our Son

I liked it because it contained an interview of our son when he worked at the Haw River in North Carolina.
It was a well written book by Anne Melyn Cassebaum. I enjoyed reading it.
