Grade 7-9-- A concise history that's packed with information. Zeinert explains the roots of German and Nazi anti-Semitism, points out the brutality of the SS, chronicles everyday life in the ghetto, describes heroic acts, and includes the words of many participants. In addition, the book has an an extensive bibliography and chapter notes--something more authors should include. While it may pique readers' interest, it is not as exciting a read as it could be. The prose style includes too many short sentences and paragraphs that impede the flow of the narrative. Simplicity, a smoothly flowing text, and excitement can be found in Werstein's The Uprising of the Warsaw Ghetto, November 1940-May 1943 (Norton, 1968; o.p.), which makes use of on period sources. --David A. A poignant reminder of the revolts that occurred even in concentration camps like Treblinka. Readers familiar with the Jewish resistance may know that people traveled in and out of the Warsaw Ghetto through sewers, but are probably unaware of cleverer survival tactics like sending milk through pipes, or of the diabolical procedures that forced Poles out of buildings (with all their belongings) and Jews in (with only the barest necessities)-- 14 to a room, with 55,000 left in the streets. The degradation, with only faint gleams of hope (suicide rates decreased when the US entered WW II), systematically wore the Jews down, making the revolt even more remarkable. Of special note here are the profiles of outstanding fighters (of both sexes) in the two major rebelling organizations, including their eventual fates; the leaders' philosophical differences are fascinating, as is their success in rising above self-destructive factions in order to pull together. Nazis bad, Jews good

It has been proven that the Jews are a race that is not to be messed with (azns too). Everytime they face a huge problem, they always find a way to deal with it. In this non-fictional book, the author, Karen Zeinert, writes about the courageous Jews of Warsaw. The details are events described accurately. There were only a few thousand of Jews left in the ghetto and they managed to fight off the Nazis for weeks. There are plenty of photographs that helps the reader understand the people and setting.
Overall, this is a good book. It is enjoyable to read and also educational. I give it 4 stars out of 5.
